Morocco with Teens: Why It Should Be on Your Family Travel List

When my youngest daughter Georgia headed off on her Morocco adventure, it reminded me just how much this incredible country has to offer families travelling with teenagers.

Morocco is one of those destinations that surprises people.

Yes, there are the colourful streets of Marrakech, rooftop restaurants and bustling souks, but venture a little further and you’ll discover dramatic mountain landscapes, traditional Berber villages, desert camps beneath star-filled skies, beautiful coastal towns and some truly unforgettable places to stay.

And for families with teenagers, this is where Morocco really comes into its own. It’s a destination where teenagers can:

  • Explore ancient cities and colourful markets

  • Try incredible local food

  • Experience a completely different culture

  • Challenge themselves through adventure

  • Meet local communities and see a different way of life

It’s the perfect blend of discovery, culture and a touch of luxury.

The Atlas Mountains: adventure and connection

Just a short drive from Marrakech, the Atlas Mountains feel like another world.

Cooler temperatures, traditional Berber villages, mountain trails and incredible scenery make this one of Morocco’s most rewarding regions.

This is where Georgia will be spending much of her trip: supporting community projects, experiencing village life and trekking to the summit of Mount Toubkal (4,167m), the highest peak in North Africa! For teenagers, these are often the experiences they remember most.

The desert: a night under the stars

A desert experience is one of Morocco’s biggest highlights.

If time is limited, Agafay near Marrakech offers the chance to experience desert magic with sunset views, camel rides, campfires and incredible stargazing. For those with more time, a journey towards the Sahara brings ancient kasbahs, dramatic landscapes and traditional Berber camps.

Marrakech: colour, culture and energy

Marrakech is an incredible introduction to Morocco. From exploring the maze of colourful souks and sampling street food, to rooftop dining, Jardin Majorelle and a traditional hammam, there’s something to keep teenagers engaged around every corner.

The Atlantic Coast: the perfect way to slow down

Morocco’s coastline offers a completely different pace. Places like Essaouira and Taghazout bring surfing, seafood, beach time and relaxed coastal charm. The perfect contrast after exploring cities, mountains and desert.

Where to stay in Morocco

One of the things I love most about Morocco is the incredible variety of places to stay. Luxury here feels different.

It’s not about huge resorts; it’s about beautiful design, intimate spaces, hidden courtyards, incredible hospitality and hotels with real character. From boutique riads in Marrakech to desert camps, mountain retreats and coastal escapes, Morocco offers some truly memorable stays.

Morocco is one of those destinations that offers families something beyond a traditional holiday. It’s adventurous, culturally rich, full of incredible food and packed with experiences teenagers will genuinely remember. If you’re looking for a family trip that combines discovery, adventure and a touch of luxury, Morocco deserves a place on your travel list.
